Alberta Bakken Pool
Granite’s oil production comes from the Mississippian-aged Upper Bakken siltstone, which lies at a depth of 1,250-1,300 metres and has a thickness of 2-14 metres. Granite’s predecessor company created an in-house geological model of the reservoir.
The Upper Bakken siltstone is virtually clay-free, with average porosity of 9-12 percent and average permeability of approximately 5 millidarcies, less "tight" than many unconventional reservoirs. The eastern pool area is up to 14 metres thick, while the largely unexplored western end, which Granite intends to delineate, is thinner and with more unconventional characteristics.
